2016 Nissan X-Trail

Nissan X-Trail has been with us for only a short time but
within that time, the vehicle has achieved very good
results.  Nissan is set to release a new version of this
impressive mid size SUV which has quickly established itself as
a family car of choice in about 192 countries worldwide.

Nissan X-Trail 2016 Exterior

The new 2016 Nissan X-Trail has adopted the Common Module
Family (CMF) platform which is a result of a joint venture
between Nissan and Renault. This platform allows use of
lightweight materials such as aluminum which will result in
reduced weight leading to better fuel efficiency.

The auto maker has hooked the car with a more muscular look.
The car features high mudguards, taillights that look like
boomerang and headlights with LED daytime running lights. The
new roof rack will also feature two additional
headlights-reflectors to aid night driving.

Depending on the trim level, the vehicle will feature 17 inch
or 18-inch alloy wheels which will complete its stylish new
look. The vehicle will have a ground clearance of 210 mm and a
24 degrees angle of departure. Motorists will have a chose
between three trims i.e. S, SV, and SL.

2016 Nissan X-Trail Interior

The new model is set to offer both two-row and three-row
seating options. Specifically, the S and SV trims will offer a
third row as an option. However, the SL trim will only offer
two row seats as standard. The S and SV trims with three
seating rows can comfortably seat 7 adult passengers

The new cabin has received some sprucing with a new navigation
system, a new LCD touchscreen and a new navigation system.
Other interior features that will be offered as standard
include a Bose powered audio system, an improved  Nissan
Connect system, power steering, electric mirrors, a manually
operated air conditioner, seats covered in fabric and a keyless
entry  with central locking. Motorists looking for more
can chose among other features offered as optional such as a
glass roof that offers a panoramic view, leather interior,
power front seats, a rear view camera, a navigation system,
automatic air conditioning and an improved entertainment system
with a touch screen display.

For safety purposes, the X-Trail comes with air bags including
side air bags, ABS braking, electronic brake distribution,
brake assist and a blind spot detection feature. There will be
additional features depending on the trim level; the auto maker
has grouped additional features into packages which are the
family package, the SV Premium package, and the SL Premium

Engine, Specs and Performance

The 2016 Nissan X-Trail maintains the same engine on the
previous model. This engine will be a 2.5 L Inline-4
supercharged engine with an estimated output of 170hp and 175
lb-ft of torque. This engine will be paired with a 6-speed
Xtronic CVT automatic transmission system. There won’t be a
manual transmission system for the 2016 X-Trail.

The vehicle will be offered with a front wheel drive mode as
standard. All wheel drive mode will be offered as an option
though. When it comes to fuel efficiency, the new figures will
be pretty impressive which can be attributed to the
manufacture’s use of lightweight materials on its body. It will
have 26 mpg for city, 33 mpg for highway and 28 mpg combined.
The 2016 model will also feature a new hybrid engine.
This engine will be a combination of an electric motor with a
2.0L Inline-4- gasoline engine.

For the European market, Nissan will equip the new X-Trail with
1.6 dCI diesel engine with 130 hp originating in Reno, this
engine in city driving consumes 6.2 liters of fuel per 100 km
(38 mpg), on the open road 4.8 liters (48 mpg), while combined
consumes around 5.3 liters per 100 km (44,3 mpg)
. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h (0-60 mph) reached in about
11 seconds, and the maximum vehicle speed is 186 km/h (115
mph). The vehicle meets the stringent Euro 6 standards and
emits 143 grams of CO2 per kilometer.

Release date and price

The auto maker is scheduled to release the car to dealerships
in the second half of 2015 having already showcased it during
the Geneva Motor Show. Given that the base model has only
received a few improvements from the 2015 version, we expect
tits price to change slightly. As such, we expect the price to
be around $ 28,000 but higher trim levels will attract more.

The biggest competitors in the class mid-size SUV for
redesigned Nissan X-Trail are Mazda CX5 , GMC Terrain and Honda HR-V.
